ABSTRACT

In Ukraine, COVID-19 has contributed over 104,106 deaths. Multiple risk factors for COVID-19 almost have been identified. The new PRINCIPLE methodology for selecting indicators of patient screening using medical equipment is developed. The name of this methodology is an acronym of the criteria for selecting indicators: 'Provability', 'Reproducibility', 'Informativeness', 'Numerical', 'Clinical', 'Importance', 'Prevalence', 'Lungs', 'Electrocardiography'. Tools based on the Bayesian network to predict the high risk of patient mortality based on these indicators are developed. An example of application of the proposed methodology, construction of the model, and formation of conclusions by them are given for anonymized data consisting of 22 features from adults 280 alive and 140 dead patients, diagnosed with COVID-19 at the hospital in Vinnytsia. The work offers an improved method for processing and analyzing the biomedical indicators and medical diagnostic data for the clinical decision-making tool for COVID-19 inpatients construction. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The current crisis in the European natural gas industry, caused by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, extreme weather conditions, recent frequent accidents at gas plants around the world and speculation in the emissions market has actualized the problem of turning data into useful information and knowledge that can support decision-making. In this article, we used associative rules to identify non-obvious associative links in terms of pre-crisis empirical data (January 2013 - June 2021) between gas consumption and gas prices for EU Members. The results obtained can be useful in shaping an effective pricing policy in the European Union gas market and in regulating of household gas consumption © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus pandemic is one of the leading communication topics for users on social networks. It causes different emotions in people: fear, sadness, anger, joy, and elation. Detecting sentiment about the pandemic is an acute challenge because it helps track people’s attitudes about the pandemic itself and the messages and decisions of local authorities aimed at combating the coronavirus. To address the issue, namely natural language processing, messages are processed using the TextRank vectorization method and the SVM-based two-level classification model. The first stage is the detection of tweets that are directly related to the coronavirus. The second stage means detecting the sentiment of the dataset obtained in the first stage. The classifier’s effectiveness was tested using the following metrics: precision, recall, F1-norm, and confusion matrix, and averaged about 90%. Thus, the automated detection of the sentiment of Twitter messages about the coronavirus pandemic was obtained. The approach described in the paper will allow assessing public opinion on pandemic control measures applied by the country’s governments. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Given the openness of most national economies, ensuring sustainable economic growth, trends of linearization, transnationalization, there has been a significant increase in foreign direct investment. Foreign direct investments (FDI) is a key component of economic growth and development, as the essence of economic growth is the rapid and efficient transfer of "best practices". In addition to direct capital investing, FDI can be a source of the valuable transfer of technology and exchange, know-how, and foster international connections of companies that have an impact on economy. In addition, it should be noted that FDI have potentially desirable features that affect the quality of growth with significant social consequences. This can decrease negative shocks caused by financial instability. FDI generate income directed to support other economies. The volumes of foreign direct investments are growing under the influence of globalization, the intensification of existing ties creating problems and threats to secure the national economic development, and in today's sustainable and inclusive (integral) growth. The evolution of the world economy has strongly influenced the dynamics of foreign direct investments and foreign capital flows, as well as economies of host countries. Current trends of the impact of foreign direct investments on economic growth have not bypassed economy of Ukraine, which is in a transitional stage of its development and is a host country. Therefore, the importance of attracting safe foreign direct investments is extremely ripe for the national economy and its economic growth at the current stage.

ABSTRACT

This research embraces medical and social issues that lead to changes particularly in the activities of higher education systems, focusing first of all, on the functioning of higher education institutions in the context of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the "quarantine" period. This research is designed to attract the attention of decision-makers and society in general to the importance of a focus on mental health in the higher-education system and to highlight these issues as a part of educational policy in the process of adapting to new living conditions during and after the quarantine period. As educators in different universities, we have noticed many shifts in energy and mood in ourselves and our students during the tsunami of changes brought on by COVID-19. As the way we deliver education pivots and pivots again, rather than just weather these changes, this research seeks to identify just what those changes are, how they are being addressed and the impact of them. The article analyses the reasons that brought the world community to actively study the social, psychological and mental consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and staff of higher-education institution in general. Special attention in the article is given to the peculiarities of maintaining and saving the psychological health of students in conditions of chronic fatigue, overwork and ongoing stress. Based on the existing strategic` analysis and through the prism of the COVID-19 determinants, the main directions for changes in higher education institutions are proposed so as to preserve the mental health of people in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the period of quarantine, and following.

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the features of economic growth in different countries of the world, which are described by differences not only in the achieved growth indicators, but also in the trajectory and nature of stimulating this process. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of existential parameters of the functioning of countries (leading and growing economies) on the inclusivity of their development in the context of economic globalisation, as well as to justify the priority vectors of socio-political and economic changes aimed at realising the growth potential according to the concept of sustainability. The methodological framework of the research comprises methods of descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and step-by-step regression. The index of development inclusiveness recommended by the World Economic Forum is used as the main indicator of the country's development. The information basis of this study included international databases representing data by country. The results of the study allowed identifying the main factors of economic development and the dependence of economic growth separately in the leading and developing countries of the world. It is proved that despite the direct or indirect impact of these factors on the economic development of the world's leading countries and countries with growing economies, there is no universal model that would ensure economic growth with a focus on sustainable development. However, it is possible to identify a group of factors that ensure the maximum effect of economic growth. Thus, for countries with growing economies, human development is a priority, while for the leading countries of the world, economic growth is mainly driven by factors such as the environmental footprint per person, the Human Development Index, the Globalisation Index and the cost of imported resources. Dynamic changes in the global space, trends towards further development of human capital in all countries, unpredictable consequences of the impact of COVID-19 pandemics determine the prospects for further research in this area. ABSTRACT

Vitamin D deficiency has been recognized as a pandemic with many negative health consequences in many countries. Today the mechanisms of anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective action of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and in general the scientific justification for its effective use in the clinic of type-2 diabetes (T2D) is actively studied in the scientific literature. We performed a review evaluating, that the treatment with vitamin d3 may increase the chances for successful convalescence: reduction of inflammation and hepatic steatosis;an increase of glycemic control and insulin sensitivity. The above-mentioned issue necessitates a deep and comprehensive study of an important scientific problem, which is the need for clinical justification of the effectiveness of vitamin D3 for the prevention and correction of metabolic disorders and structural and functional changes in the liver in t2d.
